Building regulations

Designers and constructors must follow building regulations. They cover a wide range of issues, from foundations to fire safety.

• Go to www.planningportal.gov.uk and click on ‘professional user’ and then ‘building regulations’
• Use the information in the ‘Explanatory Booklet’ to make notes on:
  • why buildings regulations exist
  • what building regulations cover (known as parts A to P)
  • what documents guide designers and builders
  • what may happen if you ignore the regulations or fail to meet them.
