Role-play: present your ideas

Designers need to communicate their ideas and justify their decisions. A design team will use lots of tools to help them bring their designs to life, including:

  • 3D visuals and animated ‘walk-throughs’
  • 3D scale models
  • plans and elevations.

How does each one help a client to understand the design team’s ideas?

You must present the group’s recommendations to your client. Your building will cost many millions of pounds. Your client will want to be sure that you are doing the right thing.

  • Think about your ideas from the client’s point of view.
  • How would you ‘sell’ your ideas? You need to explain and justify your decisions.
  • If you want, split into ‘clients’ and ‘designers’ and role-play a meeting to present your ideas.

Functional skills

  • Give each answer a value (eg 0 for strongly disagree, up to 5 for strongly agree).
  • Work out the average response to each question.
  • Use the graph function to present your results. Select ‘RADAR’ in the graph tool. This will present your data just like in the real DQI tool.
